Best Class for Beginners in CalemDrift

Paladin class art from CalemDrift, a beginner-friendly holy tank with heals

By the developer

Short answer: pick anything except Wizard or Monk.

CalemDrift has seven classes. Five of them are easy to learn: Warrior, Paladin, Cleric, Ranger and Summoner. Wizard and Monk are the advanced classes. They are strong, but they punish mistakes, and your first hero is where you learn what a mistake looks like.

If you want one name, take a Paladin. It hits, it heals itself, and it has a shield for when things go wrong.

The beginner-friendly five

Paladin

Holy Strike for damage and Hammer of Justice for control, Lay on Hands to heal, Divine Shield when a fight turns. You will rarely need to rest by hand, which also keeps your kill streak going. Raid set: Oathsworn.

Warrior

The plainest class in the game, and I mean that as a compliment. Kick, Bash, Whirlwind, Execute. Defensive Stance when you need it. You learn how fights work without fighting the class. Raid set: Titanforged.

Cleric

A healer that still kills things. Smite and Holy Fire for damage, Greater Heal to stay up. Healing gives you tools to sustain longer fights. A good pick for Hardcore if you care more about living than speed. Raid set: Lightwarden.

Ranger

Damage from range with Aimed Shot, Serpent Sting and later Kill Shot. Evasion and Bear Trap buy you time. Easy to play, a little less forgiving than the three above when a fight goes long. Raid set: Shadowstalker.

Summoner

Your pet does a lot of the fighting. You add Dark Bolt, Shadow Bolt and Soul Drain, and Life Tap keeps you topped up. Get used to managing your pet buffs alongside your own health and mana. Raid set: Voidcaller.

The advanced two

Wizard

Fireball, Ice Bolt, Lightning Storm, Meteor. Wizards kill fast and die fast. Arcane Ward and Frost Nova are your defense, and you have to use them on purpose. Great second hero. Rough first one. Raid set: Arcaneweave.

Monk

Monk class art from CalemDrift, an advanced martial arts class

A class I recommend after learning the combat system. Tiger Claw and Dragon Palm for damage, Mend for healing, and two reversal skills that turn hits back on the attacker. Its mastery, Jade Rhythm, strengthens auto-attacks as it gains ranks. When it clicks, Monk is a lot of fun. Learn the game somewhere else first. Raid set: Jadepath.

What changes later

Every class ends up in the same place: solo raids for its mythic set, then the Drift. Drift monsters scale to your level and use abilities they do not have outside it, like Reality Tear and Hollow Curse. That is where class choice starts to matter more, and where a Wizard or Monk in experienced hands really shows what it can do.

You can make another hero later. Your first one does not lock you in.
