Names of the Corrupted

Sanctum Error, a Drift-only creature from the Void Sanctum

By the developer

That thing up there is called Sanctum Error. It lives in the Void Sanctum Drift and nowhere else.

The Drift names things two ways. It renames monsters you already know, and it adds new ones that only exist inside it. This page covers both.

Renamed: the prefixes

Forest Rat, one of the first monsters in Verdant Hollow

Forest Rat after Drift corruption, the same rat twisted by the Drift

Same Forest Rat. The second one has been in the Drift.

Corrupted monster prefixes vary by zone theme and encounter tier. The table lists generic fallback prefixes used where a themed set is not configured.

TierPrefixes
NormalDuskworn, Shadowed, Drift-Touched, Etherveiled, Veildrifter
EliteRotclad, Tormented, Warptorn, Painforged, Woundweaver
BossWorldreaver, Abyssreaver, Godeater, Realmbreaker, Finalveil
Named rareCursemarked, Runehaunted, Fatewoven, Memoryeater, Gravewhisper

A Drift boss is what the Quest Journal calls an anchor. The daily for named rares is called Name the Horror, which is the best quest title I have written.

There are also themed sets in the code (rot, ash, void, crystal, storm), with names like Rot-Touched, Cinderbound, Veil-Riven, Shard-Crowned and Overcharged. Themed zones use their themed prefixes; other zones use the general list above.

New: the Drift-only creatures

Every hunting zone has three creatures that spawn only in its Drift. They have no normal version. 87 in total.

Null-Eyed Devourer, a Drift-only elite from the Void Sanctum

Crown of Rime, a named Drift-only creature on the Eternal Glacier

Choir of Teeth, a Drift-only creature in the Forsaken Temple

Tiers run normal, tough, elite, named. Named is the top tier under a boss.

FAQ

Do Drift-only monsters appear outside the Drift? No. Turn the Drift off and they are gone.

What does a Drift prefix mean? Its pool depends on the monster tier and zone theme. Some prefixes appear in more than one tier.

Where do Drift Shards come from? Drift elites, named rares and bosses. See Shards and Runes.
